Irish Doctor Who fans finally get the new Doctor Who on one of their TV stations. TV3 http://www.tv3.ie airs Series 1 beginning tonight at 7PM (in conflict with The Lazarus Experiment for people who also get BBC One), with repeats late Thursday nights (so you can still watch TV3 in the late night slot without missing new episodes). TV3 was the Irish station that aired the 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie (Paul McGann, Daphne Ashbrook, Eric Roberts, Sylvester McCoy, and the City of Vancouver standing in for the city of San Francisco). The last run of Doctor Who on Irish TV I know of was when TG4 aired many of the Jon Pertwee stories in 1999-2000. At one point people with both TG4 and BBC Two had a conflict, as the short lived BBC Two repeat run of Jon Pertwee stories was at the same time as one of the TG4 Jon Pertwee broadcasts.

BBC One http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone has decided to postpone NEXT
week's episode of Doctor Who (42) to 19 May at 7:10PM, marking the
first time that the new series has had the regular 13 episode run
interrupted since it began in 2005. 42 is being pushed back a week
because, due to the BBC's commitment to airing Eurovision at 8PM on
the 12th, the rest of the schedule was affected, and Doctor Who was
going to air at 6:40PM. The recent Doctor Who Dalek 2 parter that
aired prior to 7PM did well, but perhaps not as well as it would have
done at 7PM. The Lazarus Experiment (tonight's episode) was due to
air at 6:45PM but got moved back to 7PM. If you hoped Doctor Who
would stay at 7PM or later, it looks like you won the argument. The
tie-in episodes of Doctor Who Confidential and Totally Doctor Who
will be postponed one week to stay in synch with the main series.
British military forces with BFBS 1,2, and Navy will also have a 1
week delay.

The BBC Doctor Who website has a note that efforts are being made to
have something for Doctor Who fans on the BBC on 12 May - stay tuned.

SciFi US http://www.scifi.com has announced that Series 3 of Doctor Who will air Fridays at 9PM EDT/PDT starting 6 July. Canadian viewers are expected to get Series 3 on the CBC starting in June, but no date and time have been announced.

This Week In Doctor Who now goes out on Saturdays to better
accomodate my schedule.

And now, the first little rant in a while.

The BBC has issued new guidelines to the people who make comedies and
dramas for BBC One, Two, Three, and Four regarding opening and
closing credits of shows effective 4 June 2007. The new guidelines

discussion of how this works is at the Restoration Team forum
(requires you to accept a cookie from their system) at

Closing credits now need to be under 30 seconds long (Doctor Who is
approximately 50 seconds long).
Credits have to be perfectly centred for ease of shrinking them into
a corner of a screen to put promos up for other programmes.
Credits cannot have any vital information for the show (ie: the
Blackadder funny bits, Monty Python moving the credits all over the
place, Doctor Who doing the silent credits for Earthshock).

Those of us in the US have suffered with the practice of shrinking
credits to add extra promos for many years. Credits become too fast
or too small to read if you cared about them, you lose the closing
music (on a marginal show this can be the best bit), and the promo
for the upcoming show is too small to properly make out what's going
on, so you're disappointed if you try to focus on that. Plus, the
promo will invariably air again soon afterwards in a full screen
outside of those closing credits. I fail to see how this will create
a better viewing experience for BBC TV watchers than the current
situation of full credits with the odd annoying announcer talking on
top of the sound. Instead of just annoying the 80% of people who
don't care for closing credits and would be happy enough if you
eliminated them, you're annoying 100% of viewers, and I don't see how
it gets more people to stick around.

you think that the BBC is making a mistake, there is a petition up at

feelings. As Doctor Who is a BBC show, we should note that other
petitions and petition sites are also available, including presumably
petitions to express support for the change. I haven't had time to
look myself.

publication on 12 May.
